I Am the Lord of Genes

When the “Pandora's box” of gene editing is thrown wide open, the world becomes a wasteland overrun by wildly proliferating synthetic life. Humanity cowers behind steel fortifications, treating every “non-original” lifeform as an enemy to be exterminated. Ling Mo, a genius biologist dismissed from mainstream academia as a “madman,” finds his own divine domain in this wasteland. Stripped of everything, he possesses an ability that overturns the world's understanding: to decipher and rewrite biological genes. He doesn't hunt them. He “tames” them. While others shiver in the dark, he implants the genes of bioluminescent jellyfish into mutated vines, creating an ever-burning “firefly tree” to light the endless night. While survivors fight to the death over a single drop of fuel, his “plastic-devouring bacterial mats” break down tons of plastic waste and turn it into efficient biofuel. He paints with genes and molds with flesh and blood, transforming monsters everyone fears into one-of-a-kind “living tools.” The docile “burrowing beetles” are his mounts for conquering the land, the fierce “blade mantises” his most loyal guards, and the symbiotic “weaver spiders” help him build the beginnings of a city. This is the story of a man abandoned by the world who turns the apocalyptic wasteland into his own private Pokemon paradise. He doesn't intend to build a simple survivor outpost, but a biopunk city where all life coexists, declaring to the old world: the “creator” of a new era has arrived.
