Heart Ablaze, Spirit Refreshed

Wei Liao, squad leader of the Red Thorn Special Forces, never imagined he could become so devoted to anyone, until he met Shu Shuang, a reporter for Kyoto's city news channel and the best friend of his commander Xing Liehuo's wife, Lian Qiao, at a family dinner.

The battle-hardened soldier in uniform and the composed, capable reporter in front of the camera should have been on parallel paths, but that meeting brought them together for good. Wei Liao sheathed his sharp edges and pursued her with a soldier's trademark directness and passion. From the training grounds to the news scene, he always seemed to show up at just the right moment. Their love overcame every obstacle. They married and had an adorable daughter, Wei Shuzi.

However, Wei Liao's mother could never get over Shu Shuang's humble background. The divide between their families eventually tore their marriage apart. Even after their divorce, Wei Liao never truly let go. He remained a quiet, constant presence in Shu Shuang's life, protecting her without drawing attention to himself.

Then, during a catastrophic flood, Wei Liao led his team on a rescue mission and reunited with Shu Shuang, who was reporting from the front lines. On a night of torrential rain, he hid his worry behind orders and forcibly “locked” her inside a temporary tent. Once the disaster had passed, the first thing he did after returning to Kyoto was drag her straight to the civil affairs bureau. When they had their marriage certificates in hand once more, he murmured, “Shu Shuang, don't even think about running away again. Not in this lifetime.”
