A Record of the Nightmare Arts’ Journey West

Pei Yan, a renowned detective of the Dayin dynasty, is demoted to a minor post in the western frontier after offending powerful officials with his outspokenness. On the way to his new assignment, he travels with Su Miao, a Daoist practitioner harboring a secret, and becomes entangled in a series of baffling cases involving nightmare arts: living shadow puppets dance by night and claim lives, murals in an ancient temple devour monks, a bronze mirror at a post station reveals bloody grudges from past lives, and a desert inn transforms into a prison of flesh and blood... Behind every strange case lies a shocking conspiracy brewing for a thousand years in the depths of the western frontier. Someone intends to sacrifice countless lives to awaken the slumbering Lord of Nightmares and overturn the mortal world. Pei Yan uses his wits to dispel the fog, while Su Miao counters the uncanny with mystic arts. Together, they journey west into perilous supernatural realms, meet extraordinary people, and face formidable foes. In a world of bizarre and dazzling nightmare arts, they seek the truth and protect order in the mortal world.
