A Fateful Trial of Love

At Kyoto’s Yanxue Academy, the cross-dressing young noblewoman Su Wan and the brilliant Pei Yan, an illegitimate son, are classmates who support one another. But a misunderstanding over “stealing exam papers” leads Pei Yan to humiliate Su Wan in public. Su Wan activates the Event Choice Causality System, which lets her see the causal threads linked to each choice whenever she faces a decision. To defend her dignity, she chooses “fight back in public,” unexpectedly setting off a chain of events revealing that Pei Yan’s grandfather once owed the Su family his life. To uncover the truth, she chooses “sneak into the library at night,” which brings to light the secret of how Pei Yan’s mother was driven to her death by one of Su Wan’s father’s former subordinates. As the two are caught in an agonizing push and pull, Su Wan uses the System again and again to escape false accusations and isolation, while Pei Yan gradually realizes that his growing feelings for “Young Master Su” were really an obsession with Su Wan, the woman she had always been. At last, the System presents him with the choice “confess your feelings,” and they clear up every misunderstanding, saving each other in the process.
