Reborn in the 1970S: I Awakened My Powers in a Northeast Village

In the bitter winter of 1974, Zhao Li, a botanist from the apocalypse, is reborn as a young woman in a rural Northeast China village, forced into a marriage exchange. She wakes up tied up in a woodshed and discovers she has an ability to absorb the life force of plants. Faced with the Zhao family, who plan to trade her for a bride price to help her lame younger brother, a communal granary where all the grain has withered overnight, and the strange phenomenon of plants growing wildly whenever her palm heats up, she must use the knowledge from her previous life to survive in an era that believes in science. "That girl must be possessed!" When cabbage in the village's vegetable cellar mysteriously rots and wheat in a private plot puts out ears in March, Song Weidong, an educated youth sent to the countryside, arrives with Soviet radiation-breeding technology. The jade pendant fragment on his chest is an exact match for the radiation samples from Zhao Li's laboratory before it exploded. As the two test each other, they discover that her younger brother's origins conceal a secret involving switched babies, while the granary's strange transformation was caused by Zhao Li's uncontrolled ability. To conceal the supernatural phenomena, one pretends to be an agricultural technician while the other feigns illness. They explain wheat ears pointing the way with magnetization, pass off isotope testing as a "paternity test," and claim that the high-yield wheat grown with Zhao Li's ability is a new Soviet variety. When the county hospital's Party secretary arrives with medical records, the Zhao family throws a tantrum, pretends to be dead, and threatens them with their lives. But none of it can hold up against the DNA pattern that suddenly appears in the waves of wheat on the threshing ground. In this adventure of disguising supernatural powers as science, Zhao Li goes from being a "bringer of bad luck" to a model seed breeder, while Song Weidong rises from an educated youth to a technical backbone. The day a hand tractor drives into the village, Zhao Li finally holds her own household registration booklet and understands: there are no miraculous supernatural powers in this world, only ordinary people pushed forward by the tides of their times, with their heads bowed among the ears of wheat.
