Reading the Complete Tang Poems at Night

A Nighttime Reading of the Complete Tang Poems is a distinctive work of Tang poetry appreciation. Breaking away from the conventional approach of classifying poems by form or subject, it rearranges and interprets Tang poetry from the unique perspective of reading at night. The author follows the ebb and flow of emotions and thoughts during a nighttime reading, cleverly linking poems by different poets and in a variety of styles. From Li Bai's romantic ease to Du Fu's grave and forceful verse, from Wang Wei's ethereal tranquility to Li Shangyin's deep and lingering sentiment, the book offers a full range of poetry. With a delicate touch, the author closely examines the imagery and atmosphere of each poem, explaining the poets' thoughts and feelings in the quiet of night. Readers are guided to experience the reflections on life and philosophical ideas contained in the poems, as if speaking with poets from a thousand years ago on a still night, and to feel the unique depth and charm of Tang poetry when read at night.
