I've read a lot of novels, and sometimes friends ask me to recommend a few. I think and think, then realize I've forgotten so many of the books I read before. When someone mentions a protagonist's name, I vaguely remember the story, but when they ask for the title, I'm completely stumped. So I made this little list of books I've enjoyed, both ones I remember from before and new ones I come across. Then when friends ask me for recommendations, I can just share the list. No formulaic plots, no demonizing and no saintly characters. Above all, the story needs logic, and the protagonist shouldn't be an idiot. I've read a lot of books, and everything on my bookshelf is something I'd happily pay to read in full. Some books start off well, but just don't make me want to subscribe for the rest.
