Beneath All the Heavens

Zhao Cheng, a first-year history student at a university, accidentally transmigrates to Mongolia in 1206 and mysteriously appears inside Genghis Khan's golden tent. The story mainly begins in the spring of 1218. Though Han Chinese, he was raised among the Mongols. What he hears and sees leads him to move among the most powerful people in Mongolia and the world, while seeds of rebellion have long since taken root in his heart... Mongols, people of the Western Regions, Xia people, Jin people, and Song people: one regime and people after another appear before him, some vanishing without a trace, some collapsing and breaking apart, some making a last stand, some scraping by in complacency, and some rising to glory. Shamanism, Manichaeism, Christianity, Islam, Daoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism: some flourish, some reinvent themselves, and others are extinguished, strengthened, resisted, or reborn. Emperors, civil officials, and military commanders react with disdain, contempt, astonishment, admiration, or fear. Loyalty and rebellion, slaughter and clemency, alliance and opposition, covert schemes and open stratagems, family vendettas and clan hatred, power and wealth, centralization and devolution: one stirring heroic epic after another unfolds... And beneath all the heavens, a new emperor emerges.
