A Graduated Hero's Guide to Survival in Another World

"So, brave hero, go forth and travel." What purpose does a hero have after defeating the Demon King? Ivan didn't know, and so he felt lost. Then he decided to set off on a journey. As promised to his companions, he would gather information on all the fine wines and beauties of the otherworld. A money-loving witch begged him to find a way to get rich, while an obsessive priestess insisted that he learn all about the world and the Church of Life, so he could enter into a true-love pact with her. But when Ivan left his local companions behind, he suddenly realized that he seemed to know nothing about the otherworld. He had been judging this world by the standards of his past experience. So how could a hero who had already defeated the Demon King end up with such bad diarrhea from a plate of stir-fry that he couldn't even stand up in the toilet? Why was the tasty fried rice he put in his mouth made with some kind of feces? Why did he have to dance before fishing, or risk being cursed by the gods? Ivan suddenly realized that something was wrong with nearly every part of his daily life. He couldn't just wear clothes with a ram's-horn symbol, or people would think he was a live-in son-in-law of the Ram Clan. Blowing smoke rings at a fire spirit would be taken as a proposal, and she'd cling to him and demand that he make her fire-roasted chicken. Even plucking a leaf from a tree as he passed could get him harassed by the Forest Folk. Because "your body and hair are gifts from your parents," he had to go home with her and apologize to her mother. Amid all kinds of misunderstandings, Ivan could only add another entry to the "Otherworld Survival Travel Guide" in his hands. He might have graduated from being a hero, but as a traveler, he still had a lot to learn. Today's hero, too, was continuing to muddle through survival on the road, one journey at a time.
