Before the Gods Die

Lin Du is a graduate student in folklore. His thesis is titled "Why Humans Need Myths." On a field trip to Alaska, he touched a fragment of whale bone—and the sky opened. He saw another world where the Inuit sea goddess was trapped on the bottom of the ice, her hair tangled in thousands of knots from the pollution dumped by humans. Without fingers, she couldn't comb it out by herself, and without a shaman going down to see her, she was waiting to die. But she's not the only one. The gods all over the world are dying, every mythological system is collapsing, and the fragments are leaking into reality. Some people are hunting the remaining gods, and some are hunting down the witnesses. Lin Du only had one question to answer - the title of his thesis was the same as the question he had to risk his life to verify: Do humans still need myths until the last god dies?
