I Earn Merit by Raiding Tombs

The day Shen Nian woke up, he found a ledger in his head. It said he owed 360 years of debt. How was he supposed to repay it? He didn’t know. What if he couldn’t? He didn’t know that either. All he knew was that the first debt came from Old Crow Ridge: thirty-seven years. So he went. The ridge was shrouded in fog. In the fog were insects that fed on spirit crystals. And something faceless stood there, watching him. When he finally got out, he had a box in his arms. A rabbit had carried it to him. It was made of wood and wouldn’t open. Yun Gu took one look and said it was a soul relic. Thirty years ago, there had been a village called Qingshi Hollow. Its people vanished overnight, leaving only the fog behind. This thing might have been left there back then. Shen Nian put the box away in a cupboard and forgot about it. As long as he repaid his debt, nothing else mattered. But that night, the box moved beneath his pillow. All by itself. An ordinary man who only wants to repay his debt. A rabbit that can dig better than a dog. A black wooden box that won’t open. A fog that has lingered for thirty years. Shen Nian thought he’d picked up a problem. Only later did he realize the problem had come looking for him.
