The Final Song of Lancang

In the fourteenth year of the Hongwu reign, 300,000 Ming troops massed at the border, and Yunnan’s century-old tusi system stood on the brink of extinction. Mu Tianlan, tusi of Lancang, controlled the final choke point on the Tea Horse Road, making him the focus of every power struggle. To the north, Ming general Mu Ying sent a golden decree urging surrender. To the west, the Mu clan of Lijiang plotted to annex his lands. Within his own territory, the various tribes were gripped by fear. A long-planned rebellion opened a bloody chapter. But when the rebel leader’s head was hung above the altar, the true crisis had only just begun: the mysterious wounded man rescued by Mu Yunge, his daughter, was actually a Ming spy, while an ally bound to them by generations of marriage suddenly bared a poisoned blade. On this red earth where people worship the God of the Hunt, Mu Tianlan must make the ultimate choice between the imperial army, his wolfish neighbors, and the survival of his family. Dragged into the maelstrom, Mu Yunge is torn between loyalty and betrayal, love and family vengeance. From an innocent girl, she grows into Lancang’s first female tusi. This is a frontier epic of clashing civilizations, a bloody elegy of protection and sacrifice. As the Cang River rushes on and the fires of war die out, who can sing the final, most fierce lament of that age from the narrow gaps of history?
