In the 22nd century, humans have mastered the technologies of controllable nuclear fusion and consciousness uploading, but society is divided due to "digital immortality". Scholar Lin Shen sticks to human nature, but his wife Vera chooses to upload her consciousness; engineer Chen Xing devotes herself to interstellar exploration. The three were involved in the "Reunification Sect"'s conspiracy to use strong AI to induce the unification of human consciousness, and discovered a warning from the alien ruins of Mars: Unification of consciousness will lead to the demise of civilization. In order to find a way out, humans sent the stellar ark "Homecoming" on a voyage. During the long journey, the crew evolved into different forms and encountered the two supreme forces in the universe - the "Archers" who aimed to collect a unified civilization, and the "Observers" who prune life that did not meet the standards. Facing the ultimate judgment, the scattered branches of humanity used civilization sowing and guarding differences as weapons, and finally won the right to exist independently by virtue of their "imperfect" brilliance that could not be classified. The story spans hundreds of years and stars, asking where humanity's true destination lies when technology makes it almost like a god.
