Night Shift Records

At three in the morning, the hallway light at the community care center always seems to fail in the same stretch. The surveillance cameras glitch from time to time. The medication cart is not missing one or two pills, but an entire strip of sedatives. After a string of “natural deaths,” the night nurse Lin Lan's signature appears on the death confirmation forms, with times recorded before she had even reached the patients' rooms. Questions pushed aside with “Let's fill in the records first” and “Let's get through the inspection first” can no longer be suppressed as a third accident approaches. She begins piecing together every timestamp, medication chart, and access log: Who is falsifying procedures? Who is using “temporary additional orders” to cover up excessive sedation? And who is rewriting life and death in the blind spots left by the broken lights?

This is a story about ordinary people holding fast to their professional principles. There is no detective sent from heaven, just the people working the night shift, lights that keep breaking, forms that never seem to end, and the truth they are forced to face.
