Demon Venerable from the Start: Do I Really Have to Work This Crummy Job?

Su Yan transmigrated to a world of cultivation, determined to join a prestigious orthodox sect and bring honor to his family. After enduring countless hardships to pass the Tianyan Sect’s entrance exam, he was informed: “Congratulations! You have been selected by the Abyss system as an outstanding candidate. Report immediately for your new position as an intern Demon Venerable at the Blackwind Ridge Demon Cave!” His entire worldview came crashing down before his eyes: Were the immortal sects and demonic path simply the two essential departments that kept the world running? Did the Immortal Alliance handle spiritual energy production and “civilization upgrades”? Did the Abyss handle creating chaos, stress-testing, and resource recycling? Both were positions appointed by the Heavenly Dao, and neither could be done without! Su Yan’s career as a Demon Venerable began with hellish KPIs: Monthly terror quota: scaring mortals into tears counts toward your performance! Stress-test quota: attract orthodox disciples to run dungeons, but keep the casualty rate neither too high nor too low! Resource-recycling quota: alchemy waste, expired talisman water, battlefield trash… all accepted at premium prices… no, for free! His salary was pure demonic essence, his benefits included full insurance and a housing fund, promotions depended on performance reviews, and slacking off meant a pay cut! With KPIs in one hand and outrageous schemes in the other, Su Yan faced the pursuit of orthodox prodigies, the cutthroat competition of fellow Demon Venerables, and the cold evaluations of the Heavenly Dao’s HR department… He had just one modest wish: keep his job and clock out on time! And maybe find out, who was the ruthless boss behind this messed-up world’s balance?
