Adoptive Father

The male lead is really, really awful, QAQ

When the emperor was young, his mother brought back a favored lover named Pei Wenmian, as aloof and ethereal as an immortal from the heavens.

He hated Pei Wenmian with all his heart.

He hated that Pei Wenmian's presence drove his parents apart. He hated that Pei Wenmian damaged his mother's reputation.

Whenever they clashed and he tried to drive Pei Wenmian out of the palace, his mother always protected Pei Wenmian.

Most of all, he hated that year when he was stripped of his position as Crown Prince. His mother entrusted him to Pei Wenmian in front of the palace hall, forcing him to kneel and call Pei Wenmian "adoptive father," making him bow his head to Pei Wenmian for the rest of his life.

Yet Pei Wenmian bore no grudge and accompanied him to the northwest, protecting him at the risk of her life time and again, until she finally helped him ascend the throne.

At some point, the emperor's repeated cries of "adoptive father" took on a different meaning.

Pei Wenmian transmigrated into a dynasty that had never existed in history, fulfilling a promise to an old friend.

Her debt of gratitude had been repaid, her grievances settled, and it was time for her to return to where she came from.

But Pei Wenmian never imagined that the greatest obstacle she would face would be the old friend's son, the very man she had helped raise to power.
