Bright, beautiful young lady vs. an insecure, gloomy puppy
The story is set sometime after the turn of the millennium, in the era of button phones and online romances.
Ye Luling's life at twenty was practically perfect:
Fair-skinned and beautiful, from a wealthy family, the campus belle of S University, and an academic success.
Then two things in a row dealt her a devastating blow:
First, the girlfriend she'd been dating online for half a year vanished without a trace on the day they were supposed to meet in person. Ye Luling went to the neighboring university to confront her, only to be told that no one by that name existed.
Second, she had inexplicably fallen for a straight female upperclassman and willingly spent three years as her backup. She gave the woman credit for her academic work and poured her heart and soul into funding her startup, only for the woman to marry into a wealthy family. At her engagement party, she smiled and said, "Thank you, Luling. You're my best friend."
That night, rain poured down in sheets. Ye Luling drove drunk into the river, and her body wasn't recovered until three days later.
After her death, Ye Luling's spirit wandered the cemetery for seven years. She discovered that every first day of the lunar month, a woman with a limp came to pay her respects.
The woman always brought a bouquet of balloon flowers and quietly sat by the gravestone all day.
One day, she burned a stack of documents in front of Ye Luling's grave, one by one. "The people who hurt you have gone bankrupt. Now I can go join you in peace."
The next day, the news reported that a rising business magnate had jumped into the river and died.
When Ye Luling opened her eyes again, she had been reborn in the early autumn of her sophomore year.
The online scammer's QQ account was still pinned to the top of her phone, but then she spotted the limping woman who had avenged her and died for her in her previous life, kneading dough at a noodle stall by the roadside.
When He Yi limped away from her hometown, she never expected to survive that winter.
Then she met a girl in a game who went by "60," a ray of light that cut into her rotten life.
When the girl asked which school she went to, she inexplicably typed, "T University next door."
On the day they were supposed to meet in person, she discovered that the girl she had been dating online was the famous campus belle of the university district.
How could a filthy cripple touch the moon? She fled in a panic.
