[Tentatively scheduled to follow The Unpleasant Pheromones. Exact timing to be determined. I'll start once I've written more than half the chapters.]
[Male protagonist's perspective, also known as The Bodhisattva Sheds Its Skin. Ancient Chinese cosmic horror, with a touch of folk customs and mild horror.]
The northern barbarians ravage the realm, leaving bones exposed and guts trampled. Demons and monsters roam freely across the land. Of the countless mortals, their skins writhe, dry and lifeless.
In the third year of Fengqing, Pei Ji opened his eyes, climbed out of a well, and came into the world.
Pei Ji thought everyone around him was strange.
The villagers were strange.
Whenever they saw him, they either laughed or cried. They had no other expressions, and they often gave off an incredibly delicious smell of meat that made his starving stomach rumble nonstop.
His mother was strange, too.
People all said she was dead, but when he saw her, she was clearly still alive. She just liked staying inside a jar and no longer cared to speak. Each day, she stared at him with a pair of hollow black eyes, full of spite and greed, drool spilling from her mouth.
His employer, who was also his classmate, that Young Master Yu, was stranger still.
He had an extraordinarily beautiful face, with the grace of an immortal and features more lovely than any celestial being.
Even more wonderful, beneath that exquisite appearance was a frail, failing body. When his heart ailment struck, his face turned pale, his lips red, and his eyes misty. He could only lean against someone, breathing weakly, his head tilted back in languid, sickly beauty.
Pei Ji liked him.
So when he discovered that this Young Master Yu was plotting to take his blood and flesh to stay alive, coveting him and luring him into bed, Pei Ji gladly played along.
"What are you afraid of, Brother Yu?"
Pei Ji's dark eyes were ominous. His long, pale fingers wriggled slowly, crawling up that terrified, flushed face. "When you undressed, begged for affection, and plotted to take my life, didn't you already know... that I'm not human?"
*
His fortune was shallow as a sandbar, his life as fragile as paper.
That was the fate written in Yu Yingxue's birth horoscope, foretelling that he would die young, before turning twenty-one.
The world was in chaos, demons and monsters ran rampant. Who could expect a life of wealth and good fortune in such times? Twenty years of comfort was enough, everyone told Yu Yingxue. He should accept his fate.
But Yu Yingxue refused.
He wanted to live. He had to live. He would live, no matter what it cost, even if it made him less and less human, until he was no longer human at all.
"If you want to change your fate, there is only one way: transfer your life, placing it in another being. A mountain, a stone, grass, a tree, a chicken, a dog, a lion, or a tiger. Anything can bear your life for you."
"But most of them have short lives."
"However many years you get is Heaven's gift. And yet you are so greedy, wanting even more! If you truly have the ability, go find a demon or an evil god, then see if you can make one bear your life!"
Demons and evil gods.
Yu Yingxue remembered.
So when he discovered Pei Ji's strangeness, he neither screamed in terror nor rushed to a temple to pray. Instead, he smiled tenderly, clutching his chest, lips trembling.
He had set his sights on that being's life. He would cut flesh and sever entrails, go mad and lose himself, anything to get it.
Couple: handsome, aloof, capricious, nonhuman seme x refined, decadently beautiful, secretly unhinged, sickly beauty uke.
(The author isn't good at summarizing character profiles, and the characters change over time. If anything seems off, please trust the story itself.)
* This blurb is only an excerpt and does not represent the complete plot.
* The seme isn't human, and the uke is a little crazy. Both can be cruel and selfish, and neither is particularly moral. They're not normal people, so please don't judge them by the standards of "normal" or "good people." They do have their good points, though, and aren't outright villains.
* Both leads will change and grow as the story progresses. Their feelings develop gradually. Before they fall in love, they each have their own agendas. After they fall in love, everything they do together is playful, and neither will cause the other any real harm.
* The setting is a little deranged, and there may be some sanity-straining content, including but not limited to certain characters' tastes and behavior.
* This is primarily a romance focused on the two leads. Romance takes up about sixty to seventy percent, and plot the remaining thirty to forty percent. At heart, it's a sweet story about the push and pull of falling in love.
[Reader Advisory]
1. Male protagonist's perspective, 1v1, both pure, happy ending, Chinese cosmic horror with mild Chinese horror elements. The seme loves the uke, and the uke loves the seme. They both give to the relationship without keeping score, and they do whatever they want. Expect lots of plot holes.
2. This blurb was tentatively written on August 8, 2025, and finalized on September 9, 2025. Screenshots have been saved as proof. Anyone who plagiarizes or borrows from it will be doomed to flop forever and never make the bestseller list.
3. The characters' values do not represent the author's. Only the work's central theme and message reflect what the author wants to express.
4. No character is perfect; they all have flaws. Read with caution. Everything is crafted by hand in the old-fashioned way. Don't make baseless judgments about anything.
5. Please, no extremists. This is just a novel. If it's not to your taste, stop reading. It's a mutual choice. Let's read in harmony, for everyone's well-being.
