My Elder Sister Was Reborn Thirty Times

Ning Fangchen's elder sister has been reborn thirty times. "This time, I'll protect my family, keep my eyes open, and choose a better husband. I won't give my whole heart to the wrong person again." Ning Fangchen has heard these words thirty times, too.

In every one of her sister's lives, Ning Fangchen is cured of her serious illness, the lecher who covets her is punished, and she ultimately finds a happy marriage.

Her sister spends a fortune from her dowry to find Ning Fangchen a good doctor and save her life. She patiently teaches her how to manage a household and see through the true nature of the poor scholar who hopes to marry up. In the end, she finds Ning Fangchen a suitable match: a successful new examination graduate, a wealthy Jiangnan merchant, an easygoing prince, an upright official, a young general, a childhood sweetheart, a gifted physician, and so on.

She has been cured of her serious illness thirty times, attended lessons thirty times, and entered the bridal chamber thirty times. The endless cycle is utterly despairing, but every time, her sister does as she promised and never abandons her family.

Her sister is a truly wonderful person. She meets her in-laws' and husband's expectations of a "virtuous wife and loving mother," her parents' expectations of a "considerate daughter," and her younger siblings' expectations of an "older sister who is like a mother."

But such a wonderful sister should not be let down again and again, have her hopes dashed again and again, and die and come back to life again and again. Something in this world must have gone wrong.

So, on her thirty-first rebirth, Ning Fangchen decides to rebel.
