Devoured by Insects [Crime Investigation]

(Crime Investigation + Forensic Entomology)

To help solve cases, the city police bureau brought in forensic entomologist Ling Zixi as a consultant.

No one expected this decorated expert to make her entrance on a purple-red electric scooter, complete with a novelty chicken-scream horn. The flashy combination assaulted the eyes of the entire criminal investigation team.

Of everyone there, only team captain Lu Zheng managed to stay mostly composed, though he was speechless.

He had been lucky enough to attend high school with Ling Zixi, so he knew just how terrifying the “little menace” could be.

From sneaking off to cut the power and beating up the punks who bullied girls in the dark, to hacking into the teacher’s computer during IT class and leaving behind a stunning selfie... Even though she never put her mind to studying, Ling Zixi still managed to score higher than Lu Zheng on every exam, nearly grinding his teeth to dust with frustration.

Could an expert like this really be reliable?

Lu Zheng had serious doubts.

But a bizarre case soon came along, and Lu Zheng quickly had to eat his words.

No matter how strange or gruesome the case, Ling Zixi and her bugs could always crack it.

Identify the species from fly pupal cases to estimate time of death; use DNA from pubic lice stomach contents to pinpoint perpetrators of hidden abuse; examine insects behind a car's windshield to determine where it had traveled...

Ever since she joined them, the criminal investigation team's case-solving efficiency had skyrocketed.

A goofy, irreverent female forensic linguist who never acts serious x A proper, patient, academic-minded male criminal investigation captain

[Please Note]

1. The idea was saved on November 6, 2025 (I first thought of writing a forensic entomology story in 2022).

2. The male lead is a criminal investigation captain, but romance takes up a smaller share of the story.

2. This is an alternate modern setting [important], with original worldbuilding, so please don't compare it to real life.

Theme: Serving the people.
