Live Courtroom: Cases from the History of Ancient Chinese Law

A hot-blooded law student bottom and a composed big shot top who is a legal code.

Law student Lin Heng is unexpectedly swept into a mysterious livestream, where cases from ancient China are being tried, and Lin Heng is the judge.

He meets a man named Silu, who claims to be the livestream's System. All Lin Heng has to do is judge cases and accumulate Judgment Points to leave this space.

Lin Heng studies hard and judges each case seriously.

But when a little law student takes the bench, wrongful convictions pile up.

"System, help me! Get me out of here!"

Lin Heng feels as if he's back in the class group chat, begging his teacher for help during finals.

Silu stares at his System interface, lost in thought...

Aren't these wrongful convictions? So why are the Judgment Points going up?!

[Dear Host, welcome to the livestream for trying cases from the history of the legal system in ancient China.]

[Please adjudicate the ancient cases in the livestream according to historical laws such as the Tang Code with Commentary, the Song Criminal Code, the Five Articles of Statutes, the Great Ming Code, and the Great Qing Legal Code.]

[For your safety, please be aware of the following rules:]

[Do not judge cases outside the context of their times, even if the answer goes against your sense of justice.]

[Weigh truth against order, and judge the so-called "truth" according to the values of the era.]

[Always remember: truth belongs to the historians. A judge must uphold order.]

[Have a pleasant journey.]

A wrongful conviction, but "the truth."

Silu wonders again and again whether this hot-blooded boy from the future will ever break down under this dark order, just like his predecessors and their Hosts.

That is, until they reach a conclusion no one has ever reached before.

He is the administrator of the laws of human civilization, the most learned person in the field of law, yet he cannot make sense of this boy who has only recently begun studying law.

"I didn't despair. There may be no perfect law in this world, but the passage of time has brought better laws. You witnessed it too, didn't you?" Lin Heng replies.

Silu thinks that perhaps he has found the answer.

There will always be people who never lose sight of their original desire to pursue "perfect laws," even though they know they will never reach the end.

Reading notes:

1. The cases are fictional. Their legal basis comes from the laws of the respective dynasties, from the Tang to the Qing.

2. I'm just a little law student, and I'll do my best to research the details, but this story only paddles in the shallows. I hope it can inspire further discussion.
