The Mission of Two Little Dogs

Shao Yudi was a night owl, while his next-door neighbor kept a regular schedule. Even after living in this pet-friendly community for over a year, they had never crossed paths. Shao Yudi never expected their first meeting to happen when he broke through his neighbor's window and found Mr. Neighbor lying face-down on the stairs in his pajamas. Mr. Neighbor looked up at him with a pair of flirtatious eyes and held out a hand.

"Hey, you there..."

Shao Yudi: "How did you know I'm gay?"

The other man fell silent for a moment. "Could you use that word in its original, wholesome sense?"

Shao Yudi: "Sorry, comrade."

That night, Bo Hewen's husky chewed through an oil can and spilled the contents down a flight of stairs. One flick of a lighter was all that stood between it and killing its owner.

That same night, Shao Yudi's retired search-and-rescue dog burst through the window with its newly awakened owner, took down the canine culprit, and triumphantly saved another human life and another dog's life in retirement.

Their first meeting had been so memorable that even later, when Shao Yudi saw Bo Hewen suited up in the financial news, all he could think of was Bo Hewen's pale face beaded with cold sweat, flashing red and blue in the ambulance lights. One broken ankle was still wearing a slipper, while the other...

Was in the husky's mouth.

After he recovered, President Bo sent the dog a pennant and covered a year's worth of dog food. Shao Yudi looked at the generous bowl of dog food, full of meat and vegetables and perfectly balanced nutrition, then glanced at his own takeout on the table. Suddenly, he really wanted to get down on his knees and see how the dog food tasted.
