A Young Man Arrives at the Film Studio [The 1970s]

A state-run film studio was preparing a commemorative film, and the troupe recommended Du Zhengchun, a young woman from a worker-peasant-soldier background, for an audition. She was dark-skinned and country-looking, and no one thought she stood a chance.

But as it happened, the young woman was the most photogenic. Not only did she beat out the other candidates, the film went on to become the country's top box-office hit that year.

The studio made an exception and hired Du Zhengchun. Every film she starred in became a hit, and she came to dominate cinema screens across the country.

In an era before the concept of chasing celebrities existed, people on the street wore Du Zhengchun's signature hairstyle, and clothing stores put up big signs: "New Du Zhengchun skirts and Du Zhengchun shirts now in stock."

At the same time, Du Zhengchun received a new assignment from the studio: she was going to Hong Kong Island to make a film!
