Also known as "After We Broke Up, I Went on a Blind Date with My Ex-Boyfriend's Childhood Friend"
Qin Shu once met her boyfriend's childhood friend at a dinner party. He happened to be back from leave, and despite his young age, he had already earned many military honors. What Qin Shu remembered most was his striking looks and icy aura. He barely said more than two or three sentences all evening.
Later, Qin Shu caught her boyfriend cheating and broke up with him without hesitation. Worried that Qin Shu wouldn't get over it, her best friend vowed to introduce her to the perfect new man.
That very night, Qin Shu received a message from her friend, who set her up with a supposedly flawless man, mentioning only that his line of work was a little unusual.
Qin Shu meant to go through the motions, but after a few conversations, she found herself liking him more and more.
One day, he suddenly started a video call. After a moment of nerves, Qin Shu pressed answer. The man on screen was shirtless, and droplets of water trickled over his sharply defined abs, the steam from his recent shower still lingering around him.
Qin Shu quietly swallowed.
"Sorry, I pressed the wrong button," came his deep voice. Then the camera shifted, tilting upward until the man's face appeared on screen.
Qin Shu froze, then quietly swallowed again.
After a long pause, she finally asked, "Have we met before?"
Jiang Muye looked into the camera, his gaze dark and his voice tinged with hurt. "So you don't remember me."
Wait, something wasn't right. Was my blind date my ex-boyfriend's childhood friend?
-
After they got together, Qin Shu discovered that Jiang Muye's proper, serious demeanor was all an act. He was a practiced liar.
She couldn't even make it halfway through her leave at the family residential compound before she couldn't take it anymore.
Jiang Muye returned with their meal while Qin Shu was busy packing her bags. He locked the door behind him, set down the dishes, and reminded her, "Your leave isn't over yet."
Qin Shu gave a huff without turning around. "My body can't take it."
Jiang Muye chuckled. "Who was it that said you were going to wear me out before you got here?"
Qin Shu: ...
I overestimated myself and underestimated you.
When Qin Shu didn't answer, Jiang Muye took off his training shirt with one hand, pulled the sulking woman over, and changed his tone.
"Stay a few more days."
Qin Shu lost her resolve. Jiang Muye's handsome face was the most effective weapon of all.
That night, Qin Shu regretted her impulsive decision earlier in the day all over again. And Jiang Muye deliberately paused to remind her, "Baby, I'm the one doing all the work."
-
A friend once asked Qin Shu how she'd managed to stick with and marry a boyfriend who was practically absent.
Qin Shu joked, "Because of his face."
Her friend asked, "That's all?"
Qin Shu added, "And his body."
That night, during a video call, Qin Shu looked at Jiang Muye's injured right hand, fighting back tears. The injured man comforted her gently through the screen. "It's fine. It really doesn't hurt."
Jiang Muye said, "This is my duty, and my faith. But Shu Shu, you are my world."
Qin Shu hadn't finished answering the question from earlier that day.
What mattered more than anything in helping them stay together was Jiang Muye's wholehearted love.
