★ Supernatural Creatures Series, Book One ★
Song Yinxi had been married for years. Her husband was gentle and considerate, preparing all three meals every day and keeping their home neat and bright. But the unchanging routine left Song Yinxi bored, so she often used overtime as an excuse to flirt with young guys on the side.
Until one night, Song Yinxi got a call from her best friend. "Yinxi, I think I saw your husband eating someone."
Dead drunk, Song Yinxi paid no attention. The next day, once she had sobered up, she was summoned to the police station. Her best friend's mutilated corpse lay cold, its gray eyes staring wide open as if to reveal something.
Song Yinxi swallowed. Her phone fell to the floor, its screen shattering into a spiderweb of cracks. Only the camera remained intact, glowing with an eerie red light.
"Yinxi, I found both our wedding rings in the bathroom. Good thing they weren't lost."
Song Yinxi stiffly forced a smile. Meeting the man's inscrutable gaze, she took from his scythe-shaped foreleg the ring she had thrown into the trash half a month ago. In the gentlest voice of her life, she called, "Honey?"
