The Last Scavenger

Around the year 7000, the Earth's orbit and humanity's excessive consumption of resources brought the planet's ability to heal itself close to zero.

Extreme weather became frequent, and many plants, animals, and even humans began to mutate. Earth was no longer fit for human habitation.

Fortunately, technology and people who had evolved superpowers found a way forward for all of humanity.

The superpowered led humanity on a mass migration to other star systems.

Humanity united as never before and formed the Interstellar Alliance.

The superpowered had to lead ordinary people across billions of light-years, so the migration took place in stages. On the new planets, everything had to start from scratch, and people were needed to develop and build them. Some were superpowered, others were ordinary people, and they jokingly called themselves the Famine Refugees.

Those who remained above or below ground on Earth still had work to do while waiting to migrate. They reinforced and protected historic sites, and produced basic necessities for people above and below ground... Another group organized into teams to eliminate harmful mutated creatures, making more room for plants and animals that could aid Earth's recovery. They also checked every corner of the planet for bandits who had illegally claimed territory and threatened the Alliance's peace. They jokingly called themselves the Cleaners. A small number of people with some knowledge of biology used drones or went out into the field to find seeds and animals, sending them to the Alliance to help preserve its biodiversity. They jokingly called themselves the Scavengers.

The year 7840 was the deadline set by the Alliance for all its members to leave Earth. At last, humanity's mass migration, spanning more than 800 years, was drawing to a close.
