After failing nine times to save the villain in the novel he'd written, Lu Chengci was out of ideas. He gritted his teeth and dragged his good roommate, Gu Yiqin, into the book.

Lu Chengci knelt and held out his novel with both hands, adding a note: "Bro, I'm sorry."

After learning the details, Gu Yiqin was so angry he laughed. But laughing in anger didn't help. If he couldn't complete the mission, he was never getting out.

He opened the book, and felt even more conflicted after reading it. This damn thing was a melodramatic romance.

Lu Chengci explained the mission: save the target, Si Yu.

Si Yu was designated the novel's vicious villain. He'd always loved the male lead, was the extremely unhinged type, and enjoyed doing outrageous things. In the end, he went to prison for kidnapping the male lead and died there.

Gu Yiqin was bewildered. "What role do I play?"

Lu Chengci gave him a guilty smile. "Well, you're the male lead's paternal half-brother, and the substitute Si Yu picked."

Gu Yiqin sneered. "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"

Even so, he had to go meet Si Yu as Lu Chengci had instructed. Unexpectedly, Si Yu was very handsome, exactly Gu Yiqin's type.

When Si Yu saw him, he was taken aback for a moment. After a long while, he said, "Marry me."

Gu Yiqin agreed.

As time passed and Gu Yiqin spent longer with Si Yu, he fell for him, too. Then the male lead returned from abroad, and Si Yu went to see him. That's when Gu Yiqin came to his senses. Si Yu had someone he loved, and always had. Gu Yiqin was only a substitute.

One night, Si Yu leaned in to kiss Gu Yiqin, but Gu Yiqin stopped him.

He took off his hair tie, letting his long hair fall loose. Holding Si Yu's face in his hands, Gu Yiqin asked sadly, "Si Yu, can you tell me apart from him?"

Si Yu said nothing, and their relationship remained strained for two months.

Unable to wait for an answer, Gu Yiqin calmly packed his things and went to Si Yu's office. Si Yu looked at him with a cold expression. Gu Yiqin forced a smile and said hoarsely, "Let's separate."

After handing Si Yu the divorce papers, Gu Yiqin turned and left the company.

Si Yu lowered his eyes and silently stared at the divorce papers on his desk. He picked up his pen, then put it down.

Divorce?

Not a chance.
