A cheerful, goofy, handsome, laid-back top × a beautiful bottom who is aloof to everyone else but warm toward his top.
The first time Pei Xu saw Chi Yan was on a fine, sunny afternoon.
It was a little rude, but he really did stare at the guy for three seconds.
The young governor was in uniform, with a perfectly proportioned figure. Even his waist was much slimmer than average. Pei Xu's fingers twitched involuntarily as he thought, That waist looks like I could wrap one and a half hands around it.
Looking up, he met a face so beautiful it was beyond words, though its expression was a little cold.
Pei Xu wondered if having a face like that made it harder to become governor than it was for other people.
But that didn't stop him from being shameless with his words and hands. He rested his hand lightly on the other man's shoulder, a glint of amusement in his eyes. "Governor, you're kind of handsome."
Chi Yan's reply was a shoulder throw.
Pei Xu landed in style. Had he learned his lesson?
Not a chance! He blew his bangs out of his eyes and teased, "You're so mean."
Pei Xu was a high school student who had just finished the college entrance exam. He came out of the exam hall full of youthful confidence, but before he could even show off, he had the bad luck to miss a step. When he woke up, he was somewhere unfamiliar.
Calling it unfamiliar was putting it mildly. It was more like a wilderness survival situation.
The people there piloted warships, spacecraft, and mechs.
As an Earthling, Pei Xu: "..."
Can someone speak up for me?
The local saying was: If you're a man and can't pilot a warship, what are you even alive for?
Pei Xu laughed in disbelief. "Don't you think that's an unreasonable expectation?"
To survive, Pei Xu had no choice but to learn on the fly. His efforts bore fruit unexpectedly, and a year later he was promoted to headquarters, where he met the legendary commander-in-chief.
Later
The governor, lost in passion, sat on his lap.
Pei Xu rested his chin in the hollow of the other man's shoulder, listening to the governor's ragged breathing.
He asked, "You were staring at me for ages that day, weren't you?"
He meant the day they first met.
Chi Yan caught his breath and narrowed his eyes. He answered softly, "You already know, don't you?"
Pei Xu was lazy as a salted fish, but whenever he did anything, it was something big, and he always succeeded. Chi Yan had heard about his many exploits. During one campaign to the south, he saw Pei Xu, the man everyone had been talking about from the very beginning. It took only one glance for Chi Yan to be drawn to him.
He had never seen a face so strikingly bold. More than that, Pei Xu had an irrepressible air of youthful confidence.
When they met again later, it was because Chi Yan had spent a long time watching him first. Every coincidence Pei Xu thought had happened by chance was something Chi Yan had carefully planned.
Pei Xu said knowingly, "I knew it."
He had felt that burning gaze. He knew he hadn't imagined it.
Bonus scene:
Pei Xu, fresh off winning first place in the mech competition, leaps down from his mech...
He lands squarely in front of someone.
The wind tousles his hair, and his jaw-droppingly handsome face takes on a bold, swaggering look. He spreads his hands. "Wasn't I insanely cool?"
Bonus scene two:
After a lot of effort, Pei finally finds a job! He'll be cleaning mechs.
It's the lowest-level job in the mech industry.
Pei: "There's nowhere lower I can go now, right?"
Boss: "Congratulations, you're fired!"
Pei Xu: "?"
So there is somewhere lower after all?
Theme: It's fine to slack off, but you can't actually be useless.
