Against the Way

Si Lin never imagined that, five years later, when he returned to the Si family, the first person to capture his heart would be his father's widow.

Si Lin returned to China for his father's funeral, where he met Shen Qixu for the first time.

He was the one rumored to be his father's "little wife," more than thirty years younger than him.

Pale, quiet, gentle, like a white rose carefully pruned.

Everyone said Shen Qixu was merely a stand-in for his father's first love, a pretty toy that could be kept at home with enough money.

But in the dim light of the funeral hall, Si Lin saw his lowered lashes, the red corners of his eyes, and the slender waist beneath his mourning clothes, so delicate it looked as if it would snap in two.

"Young Master, please accept my condolences," Shen Qixu said softly, his voice as gentle as a feather brushing across the heart.

Si Lin stared at him, then suddenly smiled.

His father was dead, but the man his father had claimed was still alive.

"You shouldn't have touched me."

"But you didn't push me away."
