My Husband Sticks Close to Me Every Night

The young physician Lu Zhiching of Xinghua Alley was blessed with striking good looks. His refined features were like a painting, and his whole bearing was gentle and elegant. The handsome doctor was the secret crush of many young women and men in town.

That year, a late-spring cold snap hit. Granny Lu dug a poor little thing out of a snowdrift.

He was emaciated, barely clinging to life, and a pretty young man with a pregnancy mark between his brows.

The neighbors all said the Lu family was kindhearted to take in such a burden.

When the poor little thing woke up and recovered, he rushed to help with chores and learned medicine and herbs. His bright eyes always looked only at Lu Zhiching.

Lu Zhiching ruffled his hair. "From now on, this is your home."

Granny Lu felt sorry for him and gave him the name Heng'er.

She said he was like a fragrant herb growing in a crack in the mountain rocks, impossible to crush no matter how hard the wind and rain beat down.

The neighbors' gossip about a "child bride" reached Heng'er's ears. His ears turned red, and he stood hesitating outside Lu Zhiching's room for a long while, clutching his bedding.

Lu Zhiching opened the door. Seeing him like that, his heart softened, and he sighed. "Come in. The wind is strong tonight. Don't catch a chill."

Still weak from illness and sensitive to the cold, the poor little thing drifted toward Lu Zhiching in his sleep, murmuring, "Cold..."

Lu Zhiching wrapped him up in his arms and warmed him with his body heat. From then on, he never let go.

Later, the boy grew into a young man, so beautiful he was dazzling.

Only then did Lu Zhiching belatedly realize:

This wasn't a mere herb. It was a clingy vine that had quietly wrapped itself around his whole heart.
