What do I do if my boyfriend mistakes me for my counterpart?
[Blurb]:
Thanks for asking. I landed in Gotham, and the moment I got off the plane, I was forced into a real-life city escape show.
My phone? Great. It heroically met its end in a hail of bullets (literally). My online crush? We haven't even met, and we're already facing the ultimate crisis: losing contact and breaking up (literally). I'm Silas Carl Drake, a hardworking CEO of a multinational corporation. I recently fell (online) for Mr. Tim, a die-hard Red Robin fan who does photography in New Jersey. I crossed oceans to put an end to our damn long-distance relationship.
And then I ended up in Gotham.
Great, the DC Universe. You never disappoint! The dimensional barrier is as thin as paper!
Now my suitcase and I are standing in the streets of Gotham in total disarray. I'm sure all I did was get the trendy "Tim Drake (comic-book exclusive edition)" haircut. I didn't go to Korea for a "Red Robin original body duplication surgery"! Why do all those Gotham specialties (read: criminals) shout "Grab that Robin!" when they see me? I'm really not him! My socially anxious online crush is much more like a Red Robin fan, okay?! Oh, right, where is he? Ghosting me... I'm really done for now!
Meanwhile, the real Red Robin, Tim Drake, is also in total disarray.
His phone holds a "ghost account," belonging to a guy from a parallel universe who is also named Tim Drake. Over the past year, it has become his secret place to catch his breath. He confides his troubles and shares his life (leaving out the dangerous parts), and the other guy accepts it all. Aside from occasionally disappearing for months (signal lost across the dimensional barrier?), everything is peaceful.
Until Bruce "dies." Tim puts on the Red Robin suit and decisively cuts off contact.
A year later, with the turmoil over, he opens that long-neglected phone again.
And sees... a love confession from his counterpart, sent three months ago? And he'd... said yes?!
Tim's brain: Core processor overheating. Cooling urgently required.
Tim's heart: Alarm bells blaring! Oh no! He's definitely so excited that he came all this way! That silly parallel-universe version of me who claims to be a CEO! He really crossed! Worlds! To! Find! Me!
So, on a smoke-filled Gotham street, a CEO in a business suit with a haircut like Red Robin's and "I'm an office drone, please don't mug me" written all over his face (Carl), comes face to face with a vigilante wrapped in a uniform, fresh from his nighttime patrol, his eyes filled with shock and the complicated look of "I knew it" (Tim)...
Carl: Brain offline... Oh no! I got caught ghosting him! He looks like he's about to cry! (Screaming inwardly: And why do we look so alike?!)
Tim: Brain overloaded... Oh no! He really crossed the multiverse to find me! (Screaming inwardly: Oh my god, that face, that hair! He's really my counterpart! QAQ! But he looks so weird in a suit...)
A chaotic romantic comedy about mutual misunderstandings, getting exposed across dimensions, a socially confident CEO running into a socially anxious vigilante (?), and "Help, the person across from me looks like me, but also isn't me."
Office-drone CEO (Carl) & Red Robin (Tim) pairing
Pseudo-selfcest warning
OOC is the joke
A mountain of headcanons
Pure sweetness, no angst
Mutual top tendencies, be warned
Inspired by a bizarre dream about a "video call between Red Robin and his counterpart."
