About How My Brother Might Be a Demon, but Whatever
"After all, a surprise older brother coming out of nowhere might reasonably come with a demonic side."
Tim Drake's life hit a minor snag when he was seventeen:
1. He found out he had a biological older brother. (Bruce: "Uh, forgot to mention...)
2. The brother's name was Robert, and he lived in Arkham. (In a regular ward, but that's not the point.)
3. This brother might not be human. (Evidence: crosses give him a rash, but he can bend a crowbar with his bare hands.)
The wildest part was...
Everyone in Gotham knew Robert. ("The handsome guy who always comes to fix the church's stained-glass windows?")
The whole Batfamily knew Robert. ("You mean the Arkham patient with autism who blew up Arkham and tore off my cape while telling me I'm not Batman?" Dick had no energy left to complain.)
Only Tim didn't know. ("You kept this from me for seventeen years?!")
"The good news," Bruce whispered outside the door, "is that he's easier to get along with than Jason."
"The bad news," Dick added, "is that he wants to become your legal guardian now."
Tim looked at the Robin suit Robert had just repaired, then at the blueberry muffins he'd brought.
...Well, at least this brother could cook.
("You're missing the point!" the demon inside Robert's head screamed.)
So Tim Drake was left with one little problem: his brother might not be an ordinary person.
But Tim decided not to look into it too deeply, because:
1. Robert's muffins cured his post-patrol low blood sugar (and his fear of the Joker).
2. Robert always stood in front of Tim during a fight (while also mocking the enemy's subpar tactics).
3. He was easier to get along with than that little demon spawn Damian (at least he didn't put laxatives in Tim's coffee).
"So, does it really matter what my brother is?"
Tim wondered as he bit into a muffin.
Until one day, he found a note tucked into Robert's Bible:
"Supplemental Contract Clause: If Tim Drake is harmed, this agreement will immediately become void."
...Fine. Now he had to reconsider the question.
("Don't think about it," Constantine said as he passed by. "Your family is enough to make Satan shake his head.")
