After Falling on Hard Times, I Was Cherished by the Fiancé Who Broke Our Engagement

Five years ago, Ji Leyang was the adored little heiress of a mining family. When she learned she was promised in marriage, she shoved the child bride who had come from a remote mountain village down the stairs and declared, "Stay away from me, you little coal lump!"

Five years later, her parents were behind bars and Ji Leyang had lost everything. She washed dishes by day and dodged debt collectors at night. After she unexpectedly fainted, someone took her back to a run-down rental apartment.

The person who brought her home was cold and sharp-tongued.

Ji Leyang spoke timidly, her voice soft. "Thank you."

"Thank me?"

The person raised an eyebrow and swept back her hair, revealing a scar at her temple. "Miss Ji, you really have a short memory."

"...!"

What should you do when the person who takes you in after your bankruptcy is the former fiancee you once humiliated?

After finding out who Gong Jian was, Ji Leyang ran away with her pride intact.

A few days later, she came slinking back.

The formerly haughty little heiress asked awkwardly, "Gong Jian, can I stay here for a few days? Someone from outside is after me."

Gong Jian looked down at her. "No..."

Ji Leyang's eyes reddened. "I can't?"

Once they became temporary roommates, Ji Leyang decided to do what she could to repay Gong Jian for taking her in.

So...

"Ji Leyang, how did you tear my clothes in the wash again?"

From then on, Gong Jian did the laundry.

"Ji Leyang, what did you make? Are you trying to poison me?"

From then on, Gong Jian did the cooking.

With nothing else to do, Ji Leyang focused on earning money to repay Gong Jian. Once she had saved enough, she decided to move out.

"Then I'll have paid you back."

"Paid me back?"

Gong Jian raised an eyebrow, her voice low. "Ji Leyang, you'll never be able to repay me."

"You're not moving out."

Gong Jian didn't like this useless rich young lady. She'd only brought her home because she found her pretend haughtiness amusing.

As expected, once they lived together, Ji Leyang was clumsy and made a mess of everything. Eventually, she made a mess of Gong Jian's heart, too.
