A wild, wolf-taming forest ranger who falls for the other guy x a gentle chef with a full-on devoted-wife vibe

After graduating, Su Huaiqing goes to work as a chef at a forestry station. On his very first day, he runs into the man everyone says is most dangerous to provoke: Chen Lie.

Su Huaiqing is gentle and mild-tempered, and his mother's words have taught him to treat everyone with a smile. That is, until the daughter of the supply cooperative comes to ask him to marry her.

Terrified, Su Huaiqing hides in the home of Chen Lie, the wolf-taming forest ranger he thinks is not quite so frightening.

Chen Lie catches the naive young man and pins him against the wall, asking in a low voice, "So we're close enough for you to come into my room now?"

Shivering with cold, Su Huaiqing nods. The man's deep voice sounds beside his ear. "Then you ought to show me a little something."

In a daze, Su Huaiqing feels someone grip his chin, then leans in to give him a fierce kiss.

Su Huaiqing is so scared that tears well in his eyes, but Chen Lie thinks his own technique must be that good.

The night Su Huaiqing gets engaged to the supply cooperative's daughter to save his mother, he plans to eat chili peppers and trigger an allergic reaction so he can get out of it.

A hulking man barges into his room, frowning as he wipes away Su Huaiqing's tears. His rough fingers press between Su Huaiqing's lips, making him spit out every last bit of chili.

His voice is harsh. "Can the supply cooperative's daughter make you feel so good you cry yourself to sleep every night?"

"Su Huaiqing, didn't we agree we'd be together?"

Su Huaiqing's fair, pretty face is flushed pink from crying. He stares wide-eyed and shakes his head again and again. "N-no, we never agreed to that."

Unable to bear the sight of his pitiful expression, Chen Lie lowers his head and licks away the tear at the corner of his mouth. His heart aches from the chili, but he still keeps his temper in check and coaxes him. "Fine. We'll make it official later."

"Don't be scared. You're the wife I've chosen. No one's taking you from me."

Later, the head of the supply cooperative and the head of the forestry station bring people to catch them in the act.

Su Huaiqing stands in the snow, his neck covered in kiss marks, sheltered in someone's arms. The forest ranger holds a hunting rifle and grins carelessly.

"You dare try to steal my wife? Ask them first."

The wolves behind him howl one after another, as if voicing Chen Lie's love for him.

Chen Lie has always thought he was the first to fall for Su Huaiqing.

Only later does he realize Su Huaiqing fell for him first.

2. The supply cooperative's daughter has her reasons for acting as she does; she is not a villainess.
