After Xingye was old enough to understand, her family elders told her two things, one good and one bad.

The good news was that they were the last clan of gods, a rare species.

The bad news was that theirs was a fallen divine clan, and everyone in it died young.

Immortals had no way to live forever, but mortals did! She'd heard that mortals were obsessed with seeking immortality!

Xingye refused to accept her fate. She snuck into a sect to cultivate, raided tombs in search of an elixir of immortality, and asked long-lived little monsters for the secret of eternal life...

She'd heard the people of the Sitian Pavilion hadn't aged in a hundred years and possessed a secret method for achieving immortality, so Xingye decided to sneak in and take a look.

The Sitian Pavilion had a master named Yan Qi, a mortal who had lived for nearly a thousand years, wandering around aimlessly and doing nothing with his time.

The Sitian Pavilion had an official post called the Calamity Relief Officer, tasked with relieving the world's suffering and maintaining order across the Six Realms. In practice, it meant catching ghosts and slaying demons.

Xingye was a member of the divine clan, after all. If she wanted to find a way to live forever, she had to join the Sitian Pavilion. And to join the Sitian Pavilion, she had to work under a mortal...

Yan Qi smiled at her, as gentle as a breeze in the mountains. "As a Calamity Relief Officer, you can catch ghosts and slay demons in exchange for extra years of life."

Xingye immediately put on her official robes and said with a beaming smile, "These clothes really do look good!"
