How to Feed a Pauper

A crossover fanfic of The Count of Monte Cristo and Crime and Punishment

One day, the sociable university student Razumikhin met a handsome vagrant.

The vagrant was pale but had an air of nobility. Overflowing with kindness, Razumikhin searched his entire person and gave him his last three rubles.

Monte Cristo looked at the young man before him, dusty from head to toe but earnest, and politely declined. "I don't need it. Thank you for your kindness."

Razumikhin assumed he was an ambitious man who wouldn't accept charity, and forced the money into his hand. "How can you go out without needing money? Don't be so formal. We've met, and I've never been able to stand by while a friend suffers!"

Later, Razumikhin ran into Monte Cristo again and discovered that he really didn't need those three rubles.

After touring Monte Cristo's grand estate and visiting his underground palace, Razumikhin was dazzled by his seemingly endless wealth.

"My friend, you've made it," Razumikhin said eagerly, clasping Monte Cristo's cold, pale hand. "Since I invested three rubles in you, could you find me a job here?"

Monte Cristo let him hold his hand against his heart, smiling gently as he replied, "Of course."
