Everyone says Chi Chaoling was born lucky. He spent nineteen years as a royal prince, destined to enjoy a lifetime of wealth and splendor, and then an immortal suddenly appeared, claiming he was the child they had accidentally left behind in the mortal world more than a decade ago.
Chi Chaoling left with his family for the immortals' world. His parents felt sorry for how hard his life had been, and since he had no cultivation at all while their branch of the family excelled at dual cultivation, they immediately arranged a fine marriage for him, wedding him to the renowned and terrifying number-one cultivator under heaven, Yun Jue.
Chi Chaoling: "?"
It really was the cultivation world: marriage had nothing to do with gender. But he didn't want to get married.
Then Chi Chaoling was bundled into a bridal sedan. Along the way, he heard all about his future husband's past.
A hundred years ago, Yun Jue fell into demonic cultivation and was cast into the abyss by a coalition of cultivators. Ten years ago, he escaped the abyss, abandoned his surname, and now he had slaughtered his entire clan.
The marriage was just an excuse. The Hua family planned to offer Chi Chaoling as a cultivation vessel, in the hope that Yun Jue would forgive them.
...A cultivation vessel.
Thinking of how Yun Jue treated his enemies, Chi Chaoling trembled. More than death, he feared the pain of being unable to escape.
On their wedding night, the room was utterly silent. Chi Chaoling heard footsteps and looked toward the figure nearby, pleading, "I heard your blade is very sharp. When you kill me, could you do it quickly? Please don't make it hurt too much."
Yun Jue drew his blade and used the back of it to lift Chi Chaoling's face.
A long while passed, but death did not come. Chi Chaoling sniffled, then suddenly turned petulant again. "If you're not going to kill me, let go of my face. It hurts."
What hurt? Yun Jue's gaze fell on Chi Chaoling's neck. A clear red mark stood out on the snow-white skin, but it hadn't even broken.
Tears rolled from Chi Chaoling's eyes without end, soaking the blade until they pooled like a lake, warm at first, then cold.
Yun Jue was cold and heartless, unmoved.
Later, Yun Jue would wonder why Chi Chaoling was so delicate, so prone to crying, so demanding, and so hard to please, while killing everyone who had hurt or tried to hurt him.
