A Guide to Raising a Mechanical Puppy

In the year 7600, human technology had reached the highest level in the universe. Beings from planets across the galaxy flocked to Earth, begging for a place to survive. On this planet, where humanity reigned supreme, humans were the masters of all living things.

Song Fanxing was an upper-class citizen. To stave off boredom, he bought a biological mechanical being from another planet, serial number 277.

Biological mechanical beings had no human emotions. Their programming consisted of one thing: absolute obedience. With that programming, Number 277 could do anything and fulfilled every request, so Song Fanxing called him "Puppy."

When Song Fanxing was worn out from work, Puppy would prepare a whole table of human delicacies, a rare treat in an age when everyone lived on nutrient supplements.

When Song Fanxing was in a foul mood, Puppy would grow a plush mechanical tail and curl around him, soothing him to sleep.

When Song Fanxing had physical needs, Puppy would turn his cold machinery into warm human flesh for Song Fanxing's enjoyment.

Song Fanxing thought Puppy would always be loyal to him. Only later did he learn that the sole purpose of the biological mechanical beings' arrival on Earth was to destroy it.

On the day the mechanical beings attacked Earth, Number 277 pinned Song Fanxing beneath him and, without a word, drove his mechanical arm through Song Fanxing's heart.

When Song Fanxing opened his eyes again, he was back twenty years earlier, on the day he bought the mechanical being at the store. It was all starting over.

Once again, he chose Number 277, but this time it was not for love. It was for hate.

Not long after Song Fanxing died, Number 277 destroyed his own mechanical heart and died in the home he and Song Fanxing had shared.

When he opened his eyes again, he had returned to twenty years earlier, the day Song Fanxing chose him.
