When she opens her eyes...

Laila, a food engineering graduate student who was about to enjoy the freedom of extending her studies, transmigrates into Laila Ashbourne, a boarder at St. Catherine's Convent in England, with no such freedom.

Laila has no time to process the loss of her freedom to extend her studies, because her roommate suddenly drops dead in front of her.

What was the Victorian era?

Laila, now living through it firsthand, would say the Victorian era is when you're the daughter of a gentleman, your family owns an estate and has an annual income of five thousand pounds, and you're being educated at a convent, yet you can still easily die of arsenic poisoning after eating lemon jelly.

No one is safe.

In this best and worst of times, no one is safe. Just as no student at the convent can escape being poisoned.

"Then I won't be a person of this era!"

Laila flips the table. She's a transmigrator, after all, and no matter how hard she tries to imitate them, she can't act like someone from the nineteenth century.

The convent forbids her from going out, so Laila escapes through the back door.

Universities don't admit women, so Laila disguises herself as a man and studies at Oxford.

Ladies are expected to be humble and meek, so Laila boldly strides into newspaper offices, Parliament, and every other place a lady isn't allowed.

As it turns out, once she stops trying to be a so-called lady, everyone heaps praise on her.

The Mother Superior: "Miss Laila Ashbourne is a truly elegant lady. I shall recommend her to the Earl of Kent."

The Earl of Kent: "Miss Laila's talent cannot be concealed. I admit she is the cleverest young person I have ever met."

Some obscure Lord Wilmore: "I suspect Ashbourne..."

Laila: "Sir, you wouldn't want anyone to find out you're Edmond Dantes, would you?"

A mysterious fortune worth billions and the body of the most handsome man in the world: I'll take them all to support the cause of science!

The heroine's love interest is the Count of Monte Cristo.
