After Faking Her Death, the Future Empress Went Mad

In her previous life, Shen Zhaoning was thrust forward by her father, the emperor, to bear the anger of the great clans and was attacked by the officials, becoming a sacrificial pawn of imperial power.

Reborn, she went without hesitation to the bottom of a cliff in the outskirts and rescued Wen Yuheng, who was still only a princess of Qin.

In her previous life, Wen Yuheng unified the realm and ascended the throne. Saving her would give Shen Zhaoning a talisman to protect her life.

But Wen Yuheng had apparently damaged her head in the fall. She insisted that Shen Zhaoning was her childhood friend and wife.

Shen Zhaoning tried repeatedly to explain, but to no avail. Looking into those beautiful eyes, she gritted her teeth and accepted their supposed childhood bond. By day, she eliminated her rivals in court and tightened the noose around those who had betrayed her in her previous life. By night, unable to resist Wen Yuheng's beauty, she bit down on her pillow and was taken again and again.

When conflict erupted once more, Wen Yuheng returned to Qin and used an iron hand to put the court in order, sending her armies against four kingdoms. The Qin army defeated one country after another, until only Chu remained.

Everyone expected a brutal battle. Yet when the army reached the city gates, Shen Zhaoning, now Chu's Regent Grand Princess, voluntarily presented a letter of surrender and died between the two armies, putting a stop to the slaughter.

Wen Yuheng, who was just one step away from supreme imperial power, went mad on the spot.

Later, having set down her heavy burdens, Shen Zhaoning assumed a new identity and began a life of leisure. On a flower boat amid misty rain, she rested her head on the lap of a beautiful physician and closed her eyes in comfort. "The power to unify the realm can't compare to how good your hands feel, Sister."

As soon as the words left her mouth, a breeze off the river lifted the gauzy veil of the beautiful physician. Those eyes that had bewitched Shen Zhaoning countless times before smiled at her, and Shen Zhaoning instinctively tried to call for help.

Wen Yuheng quickly covered her mouth, her voice icy. "Don't shout. Save your strength for crying later."
