A Frenzied Heart's Desire

Qiao Ran was born into a distinguished family and had an easy ride from childhood. She earned her doctorate at twenty-two, went into show business as a singer and actress, traveled to the top of the world to enjoy all kinds of extreme sports, and eventually settled down with a job at a university.

She demanded the best in every aspect of life, even insisting that her friends be good-looking, but she hated being confessed to by women most of all.

After all, she was homophobic.

So when her childhood friend Shang Qian spent one reckless night with her, Qiao Ran was stunned for a long time before deciding to act as though nothing had happened.

After all, Shang Qian had been drunk too.

She kept up that pretense for three whole months. She went on teaching, socializing, and chatting with Shang Qian on WeChat as usual, still speaking in her lazy drawl, as if nothing had happened.

Until Shang Qian showed up at her door.

“Qianqian?” Qiao Ran leaned against the entryway, grinning carelessly. “What brings you here today? Don’t you have court?”

Shang Qian didn’t take off her shoes or answer. She just stared at her.

Qiao Ran felt a chill under that gaze, but smiled even more sweetly. “What’s wrong? Come on in first...”

“Qiao Ran.”

Her full name. Qiao Ran’s eyelid twitched. From childhood to adulthood, Shang Qian had only ever called her Ranran.

“I wasn’t drunk that night,” Shang Qian said.

Qiao Ran’s smile didn’t change, but her fingers clenched around the doorframe. “What are you talking about? We were all drunk. It’s fine...”

Shang Qian took a step forward, her voice calm. “I was completely sober when I took you away, got a room, and took your clothes off. Every time.”

At last, Qiao Ran’s smile faltered. Her lower back hit the shoe cabinet, and she had nowhere left to retreat.
