Honeymoon,
folklorist Meng Ci and her boyfriend Yan Ze travel to America and stay at a hotel with a distinctive character.
At midnight,
Meng Ci hears the faint sound of a baby crying and has trouble falling asleep.
Yan Ze: "Could it be haunted? Nobody's staying on our floor."
Meng Ci: "Don't jinx it. Foreign ghosts don't go after Chinese people."
The next day, Meng Ci goes to the front desk to report it.
The receptionist is surprised and says someone saw a baby crawl out of their room last night. A staff member knocked on their door for ages, but nobody answered.
Meng Ci: "But nobody else is on our floor, is there?"
The receptionist says their floor was fully booked yesterday, and every guest was Chinese.
Meng Ci: "..."
After their trip, the two return home and discover that
all their friends and relatives insist that Meng Ci and Yan Ze have a child, and that they can see the child.
Only Meng Ci and Yan Ze cannot see their own child.
Meng Ci looks into it again and discovers that the hotel where they stayed used to be a church, where a mysterious "Holy Infant" was worshipped.
Research on the Holy Infant:
In the twenty-third year of the Republic of China, the statue of the Virgin Mary bled during midnight Mass. The priest saw it with his own eyes: the stone statue split open at the chest and abdomen, and a baby was born from within.
The child could speak from birth, claiming to have come in God's name to save the world.
That night, the priest took the Holy Infant to a hospital.
The baby began to pray, its voice reaching every room in the hospital. Then the dying opened their eyes, and the gravely ill recovered.
Word spread, and the people called the child the "Holy Infant." They knelt before the altar day and night, praying for miracles, and every wish came true. Later, the priest was ordered to take the Holy Infant to America.
But on the seventy-seventh day, he received a letter: "All the men and women brought back to life by Him gave birth to babies, then died with their bellies ripped open."
Meng Ci finds the contact information of someone who knows what happened.
After hearing her out, the person breaks down and screams, "The Holy Infant must never return home!"
But they have already come back.
And that child has come back with them.
Night falls over a small town in the south.
The church bells ring across modern streets.
Who are you praying to?
God, or a ghost?
