Lurking

When the dynasty changed, the Xu family, loyal servants of the former dynasty, was wiped out.

Song Wan, a daughter-in-law of the Xu family, thought she was certain to die. Instead, an imperial edict from the new emperor inexplicably spared her and bestowed her as a wife upon Jiang Jue, a powerful noble of the new dynasty.

Song Wan couldn't understand why. When she met Jiang Jue, she realized he was none other than Mr. Tao, the adviser the Xu family had once honored as a distinguished guest.

She had never liked Mr. Tao. He always seemed so righteous and respectable, but in private he had a habit of eavesdropping on people in their own homes. She had once seen him standing by the window, secretly listening to her and Xu Rui in bed.

On their wedding night, Jiang Jue gently stroked Song Wan's cheek and murmured, "I thought more than once, how I wished I were the one holding you in my arms. Now... at last, my wish has come true."
