Forced Marriage, Then Falling in Love

After observing three years of mourning, Qin Yu is about to come out of mourning when her uncles, seeking to advance their own careers, plan to marry her off as the second wife of a Minister of Personnel over sixty years old.

To escape the marriage, Qin Yu arranges her own engagement to the Xue family in the eastern part of the city. She intends to marry before her uncles arrive, presenting them with a fait accompli.

Xue Heng is sold to Qin Yu for five thousand taels of silver. To escape the marriage, he finds a chance to flee the Xue household on the eve of the wedding.

Just as he thinks he's about to get away, a woman on a tall horse blocks his path, ties him up, and carries him off on horseback.

In the wedding hall, all prepared and ablaze with red candles, the servants try to force Xue Heng into his wedding clothes. He struggles and refuses outright. "I'd rather die than marry you!"

Later, Xue Heng says, "Well, I love it now."
