Fleeting Light

1. "My mom says falling for people like you ends in tragedy."

She said this as she rose onto her toes to kiss him in her junior year of college.

Later, she really did run away, without even leaving him a goodbye.

Years later, when they met again, the man pinned her in the corner of an elevator.

"What about now?" His thumb rubbed over her ring finger. "Have you suffered enough? If you have, it's time to come back."

2. The first rule of survival she was taught as a child:

Never fall for a rich man's sincere feelings.

But when that pampered young master

climbed over the girls' dormitory wall on a freezing winter night

just to bring her a box of cold medicine,

the rule began to crumble.

Only years later did she realize

that someone really could be so stubborn

as to look forward to her panicked escape as if it were her journey home.

P.S.:

1. They were each other's first love in college, and both were virgins. After they broke up, the heroine dated someone else (only briefly mentioned); the hero did not.

2. In the hero's heart, the heroine has always been like a goddess. He admires her deeply and can't forget her, even after she abruptly dumped him.

3. The heroine is a math genius and the top scorer in the college entrance exams. The hero wasn't good at studying and went to college through the arts track, but he has his own strengths: he's an excellent businessman and has grown the family company considerably.
