On the Vileness of Hereditary Rule in Naruto

When I was five, my mom married someone.

The night before the wedding, I went out of my way to have a long talk with that blond pretty boy with a head full of bad ideas:

"First of all, it's not you marrying into the family. You're the one moving in with us."

Stepdad: "I have no objections."

"Second, I know I'm adopted. Kushina was so distraught that she insisted on raising the last orphan from the Land of Whirlpools. If you have a biological child someday, you have to treat us equally."

Stepdad: "I have no objections. You were practically raised by me anyway. Your mom's so young, there's no way she'd know how to mix formula or change diapers."

"Good," I said, thoroughly satisfied. That was the advantage of having someone you knew as your stepdad. "Do you own a house?"

"A two-story one. Your room faces south."

"What about work?"

"I was a jonin. I was recently promoted."

"You'd better keep working hard," I felt obliged to give him some pointers. "I hear Orochimaru, the Third Hokage's prized pupil, is also running for Hokage. Damn those higher-ups, always trying to make everything hereditary. How is that fair?"

"Didn't your mom tell you?" my stepdad said. "I'm the Fourth Hokage now. I hear people have started calling you the Princess of Konoha. Congratulations. You're the second one after Princess Tsunade."

Me: "..."

Me: "Dad."

Fourth Hokage: "Still think the Hokage position shouldn't be inherited?"
