Set Up to Be a Loyal Dog, He Became a Fence-Sitter Instead

Puppies usually recognize their owners in 7 to 15 days, while adult dogs take around 30 days. Once they accept you as their owner, they'll be loyal, protect you with everything they've got, and gladly guard your home.

That's exactly the kind of good dog Asumiya Jiyu is.

Feed him for thirty days in a row, and you'll have yourself a loyal dog.

·

As a kid, Asumiya Jiyu fought stray dogs for scraps. By a twist of fate, he got bound to a Loyal Dog System. The System, which had bound itself to the wrong species, brainwashed him a hundred times a day: You have to be a good dog. Whoever feeds you is your owner. You must obey your owner unconditionally, repay your owner properly, and always be good to your owner!

And so, once he grew up, the devoted Asumiya Jiyu became...

A turncoat who'd go whichever way the wind blew!

--The Organization fed me, so of course I have to protect this home!

--I was sent undercover and ate at the police academy cafeteria, so of course I have to protect this home!

--After graduating, I was sent back to the Organization as an undercover agent and ate their dog food, so of course I have to protect this home!

--My new coworker fed me, so of course I have to protect my new coworker and the home they're so secretive about!

--I got fed by a former owner from way, way back. I remember now, I remember everything. The Organization is my home after all!

"Without a doubt, I was loyal to every owner I ever had.

...I just ultimately chose to be loyal to myself."

And that, in full, is the testimony of Asumiya Jiyu, a top-level wanted criminal to both the criminal underworld and the police.

++Everyone survives

++Hachiko the loyal dog? No. The prince of betrayal? Yes.

++The System disappears in the middle and later parts of the story. After that, Brother Jiyu will be free to do as he pleases.

++Don't expect the protagonist to be normal or to become normal. He really is a dog.
