Her stepsister and stepbrother panicked at once, hurriedly digging into their pockets to comfort her.

“I-I’ll treat you to sweet soup and a little sugar figurine!”
With pine nut candy in her left hand, a sugar figurine in her right, and her stepsister’s mung bean and licorice drink at her lips, Yuan Yuan hiccupped through her tears and broke into a smile.
Life in her new home was especially wonderful. The pork trotters simmering in the pot and the drunken goose soaking in its jar were always there to tempt Yuan Yuan. Her stepbrother and stepsister took her through dog holes to roast sparrows, and stood up for her as the little bully of the alley.
Even a wonderful life has its troubles. Evil relatives show up to cause trouble, and a booming business makes others jealous... But the whole family stands together and hits back hard. No obstacle is impossible to overcome.
