Deep in My Heart

[Hong Kong-style rental-apartment romance, happy ending, fake brothers, they take turns topping] [Title and blurb to be revised]

In the cramped confines of a rented room, a young man hugged a battered guitar and grinned with unbridled confidence. "Bro, I'm going to write a song for you. One day, at the Hung Hom Coliseum, I'll sing it just for you in front of tens of thousands of people."

On the night they learned they weren't biological brothers, the young man pinned the older brother who had raised him beneath him and whispered like a man in the throes of madness, "Bro, since your blood isn't the same as mine, then let something else flow."

Years later, a renowned director stood on a glittering stage to accept an award. His award-winning film was full of traces of the past, but his acceptance speech didn't include the older brother's name.

A singer who had once been a sensation stood beneath the spotlight, singing a song he'd written for someone in front of tens of thousands of people. But that someone wasn't in the audience.

When Ren Shaoqian was fourteen, his brother stood shirtless in front of the narrow stove, making him a simple birthday cake. It was the sweetest smell he'd ever known.

In that cramped space, wrapped in the afternoon sunlight, he wrote the lyrics that would later take the whole country by storm:

Here the rocks jut up, barren and jagged / You are my impoverished soil

On each other's bodies / We put down roots and grow
