Novel Blurb:
Self-punishing fortune-teller VS warm and gentle psychologist.
Arranged marriage to love + secret crush comes true + self-punishment
1.
Jian Jia was once a brilliant fortune-teller with hundreds of thousands of fans across the internet. But after reading her grandfather's fortune for his upcoming trip, she suddenly vanished without a trace.
Her fans lined up to ask her to read their fortunes, but she burned her cards and married according to her grandfather's last wishes.
*
Tan Sheng is one of the country's top psychologists, a lofty figure in academic circles.
His white coat is always buttoned to the very top, and the gaze behind his gold-rimmed glasses is always calm and controlled. But no one knows he studied medicine for love.
For her first therapy session, Jian Jia deliberately avoided Tan Sheng's department. But when she opened the door, there he was in his white coat, sorting through patient files. "Sorry, Dr. Chen had something come up. I'll be filling in."
At the sight of that cool, handsome face, the coffee cup in Jian Jia's hand crashed to the floor.
Fate had played a cruel trick on her. This was the husband she had been too afraid to look in the eye for an entire year of marriage.
2.
After getting married, the two of them should have treated each other with courteous distance. But Tan Sheng insisted on getting closer to her. He called it "treatment."
Jian Jia reminded him countless times: "Dr. Tan, psychologists can't treat their friends or family."
Tan Sheng smiled unconcernedly. "That's true, but our marriage means I'm allowed to heal you."
Jian Jia didn't understand, until one day she found a copy of Jung and Astrology in Tan Sheng's study, covered in annotations.
Just then, Tan Sheng walked in. "Jiajia?"
Holding the book, Jian Jia challenged him with red-rimmed eyes. "Are doctors superstitious too?"
Tan Sheng turned his wedding ring with the hand holding a tarot deck as he approached her. "I don't believe in it. Tarot can't save the whole world, but you... can try letting me save you."
3.
Tan Sheng's paper on "Tarot-Assisted Therapy" caused an uproar. The entire academic community was waiting to laugh at him.
At an academic conference, a senior professor slammed the table and stood up. "Dr. Tan, you're defiling science with superstition."
Under the camera flashes, Tan Sheng remained composed. "If there's a way to heal trauma, I don't care whether it's called the occult or science."
Watching this unfold on the livestream, Jian Jia began packing her things with trembling hands.
She had hurt someone important again, just as she had caused her grandfather's death.
On a stormy night, she left a divorce agreement behind and prepared to leave, but Tan Sheng blocked her at the door.
Soaked through and no longer his usual composed self, he tore up the divorce agreement and pressed a tarot deck into her hands. "We can get divorced, but first, one last reading. Read our relationship. If the cards say I don't love you, we'll divorce."
But the moment Jian Jia finished her reading, Tan Sheng took out a hair clip she had lost when she was thirteen, along with a photograph of her fortune-telling. "You got it wrong. Your cards aren't accurate. They couldn't even tell you I've loved you all these years."
A Guide for Raising Readers:
1. First of all! Believe in science, believe in science, believe in science. You absolutely must believe in science.
2. The entire novel is finished, so feel free to read. Everything is in service of the plot. Most of it is fictional. Inspired by life, but not based on real people. The author isn't a woman-hater.
3. The story is told from the female lead's perspective, with an arranged marriage turning into love; from the male lead's perspective, a secret crush comes true.
4. The characters aren't perfect, and this isn't a doting-wife story! Half sweet, half angsty. The female lead's personality is affected by her condition, and emotional instability is normal too. Please be understanding.
5. Regarding the female lead's profession, the author knows a little about it. Different people may interpret things differently, but the meaning is usually much the same. The plot matters most.
6. All knowledge related to the male lead's profession is completely made up. Don't believe it!
7. This isn't a perfect work. Readers who mind these things should proceed with caution.
